Details: I've been using friendica for about 9 months now, and have even now installed it on a server for myself, and contributed to some plugins. It's fun! It federates and interacts with more other networks than any other such application, thus working not only as a social networking platform, but as a powerful publishing platform, news aggregator, and social networking organizer, with great privacy controls, groups, events, galleries, chat...everything you want from a social network, and more, AND there's a great community building around it.
