phpBB v3.0RC1 Codango Lab Review By: Cody Swoyer June 8th, 2007 |
Synopsis
The word ‘Olympus’ conjures up images of Greek gods, Zeus-style wrath, and Helen of Sparta – and now, the exciting new release of the popular bulletin board web application phpBB. We took the phpBB 3.0RC1 (http://www.phpbb.com/) edition for a test drive to see what users can expect with the eventual release. The impressive new feature set includes options such as file attachments, complete permissions configuration, friends/foes lists, full community driven support, and simple installation. All of these factors set Olympus aside as one of the more exciting recent releases. To top it off, Olympus is easy on your checkbook (it’s completely free) and remains open for modification. The only cost to users will be a small learning curve that will ultimately pay dividends for those who realize the full capabilities of the application. Above all else, the PHP fanatics out there will have tons of fun digging through the source code and playing with all of the new and forward thinking features.
