Synopsis
 How many bugs does it take to fill an apartment? Ten-ants! Seriously though, if you’re a developer you know that keeping track of issues/bugs on your software project is key. Bugs are the termites eating away at the software world and the bane of our existence. In this review we’ve taken a look at an open source ASP.NET bug tracking system called BugNET (www.bugnetproject.com). BugNET is still early in development; however, even at this stage the tool provides decent functionality and a quality user interface. Through our testing we found that BugNET provides the standard functionality you’d expect for entering, tracking, and managing any number of software bugs and tasks. While these features are to be expected, part of what helps BugNET differentiate itself is the user interface experience. Codango Labs found the UI surprisingly pleasant for a bug tracking app mainly because the interface makes good use of AJAX and CSS. While overall the application is fairly solid, it also has some shortcomings. We would have like to have seen CVS integration and more extensive customization capabilities. In addition, more robust reporting functionality would definitely sweeten the pot. The administration interface could also have used more tools, such as project templates, which would make setting up new projects much easier. Overall we were pleased with the results and felt the shortcomings didn’t completely outweigh the positives. BugNET is a nice open source (read: free) alternative to the closed source (read: expensive) systems out there.
