This is a star ratings script written in ASP VBScript, as seen on sites such as Amazon and YouTube. If Javascript is enabled the AJAX version is used. If not the script still functions in exactly the same way, only with a page refresh. Code: ASP 3.0 & VBScript |

Strengths: Easy to install in base config, powerful and adaptable
Weaknesses: Documentation assumes fairly strong knowlege of ASP/HTML, difficult for new/casual users to customiz
Details: Unzip the package to your web root, set the database file permissions, and add ratings to your web site - it's that easy!
If you want to customize this with new rating icons, different sizes, or even rate multiple items per page, it can be done. These advanced capabilities do require some comfort level with raw html editing, and knowing your way around an image editor, but that shouldn't be beyond the scope of any decent web admin.
With a few hours of tinkering and experimenting, I've got this script storing data on a SQL 2005 server, have 3 sizes of stars, a custom rating image, and have a customized version of the script suitable for use in IFrames (needed for multiple ratings in a single page).
If I had to find any fault, it would be the lack of background documentation necessary for customizing the script or images. Users with broader experience - asp programming, image manipulation, and some database/SQL can accomplish what they need through investigation, but some technical details would make this earn another star or two.
All in all - an excellent addition to your web environment!
