SkyPortal vRC5 Codango Lab Review By: Jesudas Chinnathampi June 29th, 2007 |
Synopsis
SkyPortal (http://www.skyportal.net/) may sound like a title for a Star Trek episode, but it’s actually a FREE (Open Source, baby!) Content Management System written entirely using Active Server Pages and Java Script. SkyPortal comes with the entire source code for, you guessed it: FREE. SkyPortal includes a rich set of features including Forums, Gallery, Downloads, Articles, Blogs, Guestbook etc. Integrating SkyPortal modules into an existing web site can be done effortlessly and customization is a breeze too. SkyPortal serves up two flavors of database: Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL Server. Through the administration screens, we can modify web portal dynamically without modifying the actual code or manually inserting data to the database. SkyPortal provides excellent support options; email support is fantastic, and you can also find help through the forums located at the SkyPortal web site. If you have a little knowledge in writing ASP pages, installation is very easy and you can build your own web portal within 15 minutes. They support three other languages apart from English: Italian, Turkish, and Swedish. Let’s see how SkyPortal performed in our lab health checkup. The doctor is now IN.
